Björk Will Release Her New Album ‘Biophilia’ Via 10 iPad Apps

Posted: 05 Jun 2011 01:02 PM PDT

Back in March we learned that visionary musician Björk announced the release of a new album titled Biophilia. Inspired by and created with iPad technology, Björk promised that her new album would be offered in a very inventive way. Today we learn that Biophilia will be released via 10 iPad apps in addition to a conventional album release. Additionally, Björk has released a teaser video that gives us our first listen to the album’s first single Road to Crystalline. Read and listen below for more.

Anything Bjork ever does is noteworthy, musically speaking, and now that she’s decided to release her next album Biophilia, as a multimedia project comprised of 10 iPad apps, she’s also become noteworthy in a technological sense. According to the Guardian, Biophilia will consist of 10 apps bundled inside a single umbrella app, and they all evolve and change with time.

For one song, Virus, the app will feature a close-up study of cells being attacked by a virus to represent what Snibbe calls: “A kind of a love story between a virus and a cell. And of course the virus loves the cell so much that it destroys it.” The interactive game challenges the user to halt the attack of the virus, although the result is that the song will stop if you succeed. In order to hear the rest of the song, you have to let the virus take its course.

The release date for the album and the app are still unknown, but it will certainly be interesting when it finally does appear.

I am absolutely not surprised at all that Björk has come up with the genius plan to release her album via iPad apps … it’s brilliant! And judging by the sound of her first single, I think this album is going to be amazing. OMG … new Björk music … I can hardly contain myself. Exciting days ahead … I cannot wait for the release of this new album.

MTV Announces ‘Jersey Shore’ Season 4 Will Premiere On August 4, 2011

Posted: 05 Jun 2011 12:50 PM PDT

Head’s up Jersey Shore fans, MTV has announced the premiere date for JS Season 4 which is currently filming in Florence, Italy. In an effort to quell the anxious excitement of rabid JS fans here in the US clamoring for any information on when the show might return, MTV announced this weekend that season 4 of the show will premiere on Thursday August 4.

Wondering how much longer you’ll have to wait to see what kinds of antics the cast of “Jersey Shore” have managed to get into in Florence, Italy? Well, wonder no more! The fourth season of the show is set to premiere Thursday, August 4, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. The crew shuffled off to Florence to visit their mother country and bring GTL and fist-pumping to the home of fashion, art and delicious food, and fans are now months away from learning just what went down when they left America. Can’t wait that long? Well, on Thursday, July 28, at 10 p.m. ET/PT, a one-hour special will air that gives fans an inside look at the rise of the show and its beloved cast of characters. The special will include buzzed-about moments, footage and interviews with the cast … Before they headed abroad, MTV News spoke to some of the stars, who shared their excitement for shooting the show in Italy. “I honestly can’t wait to get there and see the place,” Deena told MTV News in March. “For some reason, I really want to go on a gondola ride. Or I would like, if we’re in Rome, I would like to see the love fountain, so I’m thinking I’ll steal a coin. … Maybe I’ll fall in love.” Meanwhile, Vinny shared that the group was approaching the season the same as they would any other. “Preparing for Italy is pretty much preparing for any of the other seasons: trying to get in shape, trying to spend some time with my family, chill out, the quiet before the storm,” he said. “I’m excited to be thrown right into the water with whatever language skills I have.”

At last! Now we know! Will you be tuning in when the show premieres in August?

Celebrating Eileen’s Birth

Posted: 05 Jun 2011 12:25 PM PDT

Last night David and I made our way downtown to Seven Grand whiskey bar to celebrate our dear friend Eileen’s birthday with a large group of her friends. I’ve been meaning to check out Seven Grand for some time now so I was very happy to hear that’s the place Eileen wanted to party … and did we party :) The booze was pretty free flowing, as you can imagine, so a fun time was had by all. Check out some fun photos below.

The bar was very, very dimly lit so it took some time for our eyes to adjust to the darkness … and every camera flash turned into a massively painful torture. Still, with such beautiful friends, how could I not take photos with them. Eileen has become one of our dearest friends so we were very happy to celebrate with her. I hope you’ll join me in sending out one more blast of Birthday Lurve to the birthday girl this weekend :)

This afternoon, David and I planning to meet up with Ollie and Caleb before we meet up with Emma and Josh tonight. The weather is sunny and cool out, which means it’s a great day for running around :D

Prince William Prepares To ‘Troop The Colours’ For Queen Elizabeth, II

Posted: 05 Jun 2011 11:52 AM PDT

Prince William got himself all dolled up in a super fancy outfit, complete with tall fuzzy hat, to rehearse for Queen Elizabeth, II‘s official birthday celebration. The annual Trooping the Colours parade is held in celebration of the Queen’s official birthday on June 11 (which is different from her real birthday on April 21). This year, Wills will take part in the celebration for the first time as Colonel of the Irish Guards … which means, he gets to wear this fancy hat and everything!

He rode down The Mall from Buckingham Palace in central London on a horse called Wellesley, behind the Duke of Kent – Colonel of the Scots Guards. The event, known as the Colonel’s Review, takes place a week before Trooping the Colour, which marks the Queen’s official birthday. Hundreds of soldiers were out on display for the ceremony, parading along The Mall to Horse Guards Parade. Prince William, who served in the Blues and Royals, was made Colonel of the Irish Guards in February, and will take part in Trooping the Colour next Saturday for the first time. A Palace spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that the Duke of Cambridge will take part in the Queen’s birthday parade. He will ride as Colonel of the Irish Guards. All Royal Colonels of the Foot Guards including the Prince of Wales – who will ride as Colonel of the Welsh Guards – ride together as determined by the Major General of the Household Division.”

He’s a prince, he’s a duke AND he’s a colonel … geeze, next thing you know William will become a king. Is there nothing the lad can’t do? Normally, I’d poke all kinds of terrible fun at anyone forced to wear an outfit like this in person but, you know, the look kinda works on Wills. I mean, I’m not used to seeing so much hair on the man’s head … it’s a good look for him. Not for nothing, but mebbe Wills should wear this hat all the time. HMMMM … just a thought.

Whitney Houston Extends Her Rehab Treatment, Amy Winehouse Checks Out Early

Posted: 05 Jun 2011 11:34 AM PDT

At the start of this month, we learned that troubled singer Whitney Houston decided to voluntarily submit to rehab treatment in order for her to get a better handle on her addiction(s). Just last week, we learned that Amy Winehouse, too, decided to return to rehab for addiction treatment. Today we learn the positive news that Whitney has decided to extend her treatment in the hopes of continuing to clean up her life. Sadly, Amy has not decided the same … and checked herself out of rehab after only a week of treatment.

Whitney Houston feels like she needs more help in her “long-standing recovery process”. The singer has completed a 30-day outpatient program earlier this week but she is “voluntarily seeking additional treatment for drug and alcohol,” TMZ reported. Whitney has hired a round-the-clock life coach to keep her on track but other than that, no details on what kind of treatment she receives. “She really wants it this time,” a source said regarding Whitney’s willingness to get help in her own accord.

Amy Winehouse sought treatment for “alcohol addiction” at a prestigious rehab center in London last Wednesday, May 25, but she apparently didn’t stay in rehab for long. The “Back to Black” singer has checked out of the treatment program after only a week at the Priory Clinic, her representative has confirmed.

Apparently, Amy is going to continue with outpatient care … and I wish her all the luck in the world because if her track record is any indication, she’s gonna need it. It is so sad that these hugely talented singers are struggling so desperately with their addictions … but it sounds like Whitney is well aware of her problem and she is doing everything she can to stay clean. Amy, on the other hand, seems about as lost as ever. In any event, I wish both ladies all the success in the world. One day at a time, divas … one day at a time.

Prince Harry Is A Polo Stud

Posted: 05 Jun 2011 10:33 AM PDT

A few days ago we saw a batch of photos of Prince William, the newly married Duke of Cambridge, participating in a polo match in England. Today we get to see photos of his younger brother Prince Harry participating in a polo match of his own … after all, anything that Prince William can do, Prince Harry can do hotter.

Honestly, I don’t know if Harry‘s team won or lost but in the end, does it really matter? Polo isn’t really a sport that can hold my attention but I must admit, the players do look kinda awesome as they ride atop their beautiful horses, swinging their mallets around in the hopes of whacking that ball around the field. For me, polo will always be one of those exotic sports that princes play. Something tells me that Harry is the better player … and even if not, I hope he keeps playing. After all, I know I’d love to continue to see fun photos like this in the future ;D

Zuma Nesta Rock Accidentally Breaks His Arm

Posted: 05 Jun 2011 09:56 AM PDT

Zuma Nesta Rock, the youngest son of Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, suffered a pretty scary accident this week that resulted in a broken arm! News of Zuma‘s tough break comes directly from daddy Gavin who spilled the deets of the unfortunate incident to People magazine this weekend. Read on to find out what happened to the little guy and read how he’s doing in the wake of his accident.

It ranks among the scariest things you can experience as a parent — you turn around for a second and something happens. That was Gwen Stefani's and Gavin Rossdale's reality late Thursday after their 2½-year-old son Zuma accidentally took a tumble from a countertop in their home, breaking his right arm. "It was one of the worst nights of our lives," the Bush frontman, 45, told PEOPLE Saturday before performing at Palazzo Las Vegas's Summer Soiree party. "It was one of those freak events — he fell. A freak accident." After rushing him to the hospital, Zuma is doing well, Rossdale shares, but admits the event was "horrific." "He's fine now," says the rocker … "It's almost worse for us [as parents] … The kids are never alone and you turn your back and it takes a split second."

Aww … the poor little guy. I’m not sure why the little dude was up on a countertop but, yes, you cannot turn your back on kids for one second. I can only imagine how horrible it must be for Zuma to get used to wearing a cast. In an attempt to keep the little dude occupied, the fam took him out to the library this weekend … and he rocked his arm cast like a champ! Let’s send our healing vibes to Zuma for a speedy recovery.

Will Cheryl Cole Appear On US ‘X Factor’ After All?

Posted: 05 Jun 2011 08:51 AM PDT

A couple of weeks ago we learned the somewhat shocking news that British popstar Cheryl Cole was axed from the US version of the singing competition series The X Factor reportedly due to the fact that producers feared that the US audience would not be able to understand her thick British accent. It has been widely reported that US popstar Nicole Scherzinger would replace Cheryl as a judge on the show. Today we learn that Cheryl might not be leaving the show after all. It turns out that Cole‘s contract stipulates that she must be paid $1.5 million whether she appears on the show or not so now we are hearing that producers might keep her on the show just to get their money’s worth.

In her continuing drama with the producers of The X Factor, it appears that British pop star Cheryl Cole may yet be headed to the U.S. … TMZ reports that she was owed $1.5 million in her contract for the U.S. season regardless of whether she appeared on the show, and she wanted to be paid the agreed-upon amount as well as a separate fee for performing in the British show. The industry source tells THR that Fremantle bristled at this point and the two sides are in a stand off. To avoid breaching her contract for the U.S. show, Cole will have to seek a visa in the days ahead, return to the U.S. and turn up for X Factor tapings. Whether she will have a role in the show is unclear; certainly it’s possible that the two sides will reach some sort of agreement returning her to a role in the U.S. show to end an embarrassing public dispute. Cole has not yet applied for a visa due to paparazzi hounding her, according to a source in her camp, but intends to do so. The show’s next auditions in New Jersey are scheduled for June 9th at the Prudential Center in Newark N.J. Fremantle and Fox, which will air the show in September, declined to comment. A source close to Cole says “nothing would make her happier” than to collect the payout she’s due. Cole and Cowell’s representatives also declined to comment.

Ugh what a mess. IMHO, I really think Cheryl Cole will make a great asset to The X Factor here in the US … just give her a few accent lessons and she’ll be fine. But, as is usually the case with these sorts of things, it all comes down to money. X Factor doesn’t want to pay out $1.5 million for nothing so it sounds like they are scrambling to find a place for her on the show … maybe as judge, like she was originally intended. As for Cheryl, I’m sure she’s not happy that she may be forced to work on a show that has reportedly made it clear that she’s not wanted. I guess we’ll have to see how this all works out. If I had to guess either way, I’d say that we may be seeing Cheryl Cole on the judging panel this Fall … and that the US audience will get a crash course in understanding the sometimes thick British accent.
